Cala Galdana

The island of Minorca (Menorca) is ideal for couples and a great choice for family holidays. The island remains a picturesque and almost tranquil holiday destination, the local planners managed to resist the high rise developments that its neighbouring islands fell victim to during the package tour boom of the sixties and seventies and because of that the island has remained largely unspoilt and relatively peaceful. Holidays to Minorca offer a picturesque setting with glorious beaches and a family-orientated atmosphere. The island is made up of more than 100 beaches, pine forests, rocky outcrops, rolling hills and traditional fishing villages. Holidays in Minorca are not complete without a visit to the island's capital, Mahon with its 18th-century gin distillery and bustling local markets. One of Mahon's other claims to fame is that it is the site of the world's second deepest natural harbour.

Ciutadella's pretty harbour
Ciutadella the charming historic town and former capital of Minorca is definately worth a visit with its pretty narrow lanes and picturesque harbour. Visitors can also sample the catch of the day at the fishing village of Fornells or explore the market towns of Alaior and Es Mercadal. Those seeking fun days out can head to the water parks at Cala n Bosch and Cala Blanes. The island's resorts are all suitable for holiday makers looking for a relaxing beach based stay, if you are looking for hard core nightlife then Minorca's larger neighbours, Ibiza or Majorca would be a better option for you.

Cala'n Bosch
Holidays in Menorca are usually concentrated along the island's south and south west coast in beach resorts such as Son Bou, Cala 'n Porter, Cala Galdana, Cala'n Blanes, Cala'n Forcat, Los Delfines, and Cala'n Bosch, in the north of the island you will find two more popular beach resorts of Son Parc and Arenal d'en Castell. Those who tire from sunbathing can enjoy water sports, golf, sailing, tennis, and horse riding. Keen shoppers can browse for local favourites including jewellery, shoes and leather goods in the numerous local markets and shops. Popular excursions on Menorca include a visit to the 354-metre Mount Toro, with its 17th-century Sanctuary of the Mare de Deu del Toro at its peak. Alternatively there are gothic churches, monuments, fortresses, prehistoric remains and Neolithic towns scattered throughout the island.
