Papagayo Beach Playa Blanca
Visitors to Lanzarote can discover a selection of sandy beaches, there are both dark-sand volcanic beaches and soft white sandy beaches. The main beach resorts include Playa Blanca with its white sandy town beach and nearby beautiful Papagayo beach is an ideal choice for a family holiday in Lanzarote, the picturesque Playa Chica beach close to Puerto del Carmen with its wealth of water sports, alternatively the wide sweeping beach of Playa de los Pocillos is also a short walk from Puerto del Carmen; the golden beach of Arrecife with its beach front bars and cafes; and the beach of Las Cucharas in Costa Teguise, known for its excellent windsurfing. Water sports are a popular pastime in Lanzarote, holiday makers can try their hand at windsurfing, diving, sailing, snorkelling, jet skiing and parasailing. If the beach is not for you then Puerto Calero may be the place that attracts you, this sophisticated resort with its excellent marina and good hotels is an idyllic setting for a relaxing holiday in Lanzarote.

Costa Teguise
If you enjoy shopping there are a variety of outlets in all the major resorts with leather goods, electronics and boutiques in abundance, you may however wish to visit the large shopping districts of Calle Real in Arrecife or the large bustling market of Teguise, which takes place every Sunday. Those seeking lively bars, discos and nightclubs can head to the resorts of Puerto del Carmen and Costa Teguise. Alternatively Arrecife offers a more traditional Spanish nightlife.

Puerto del Carmen
Visitors to the island can choose from a wealth of excursions. You can take a camel ride in the Timanfaya National Park, home to more than 100 volcanoes, stunning lunar type craters and volcanic tunnels, the Cave of Los Verdes - a spectacular underground cave system formed 3000 years ago, and the Castillo de San Jose a castle built in the late 18th-century overlooking Arrecife harbour. Other points of interest include the Cactus Garden, home to more than 100 species of cactus, the volcanic crater of El Golfo that is filled by a spectacular green lagoon, and Los Hervideros with its combination of caves and crashing waters. You could take a tour on a Jeep safari, have a family fun day at a water park, go in a yellow submarine or experience a catamaran boat ride.
