The 2.5-mile stretch of Blanes coastline is comprised of long sandy beaches, rocky coves and a yacht marina offering a wealth of water sports. The pretty town of Tossa de Mar is set against a backdrop of verdant hills and lush valleys, with charming cobblestone streets and an ancient castle. The former fishing village of Estartit is a small, relaxed family resort set at the foot of the Montgri Mountain range and flanked by nine miles of sandy beaches and rocky outcrops. Lloret de Mar holds the title for the liveliest resort on the Costa Brava and is especially popular with the 18-30s crowd seeking big-name DJs, foam parties and thumping nightclubs. But the resort is also popular with families for its relaxed beaches and the Universal Studios Port Aventura Theme park, Europe's biggest water park, located nearby. Another family favourite is Marineland near Blanes, with its water slides, animal shows and children's zoo.
